Submitted by on October 9, 2017 – 11:40 PM | 159 views

Our first Point Guard Brunch is Monday, October 16th from 11:30-1:00 in the Founders Room of the BJC.  The cost is $20 for members and $25 for guests.  We welcome back current NCAA referee Joe Palacz, as a special guest speaker.   Steve Jones will be the MC.  Please RSVP to Mike Werner  at pennst8win@gmail.com  or call/text at (814) 238-4777 by Thursday evening.  You can pay with cash at the door or click here to pay with credit/debit card.

Joe is a high energy guy with a passion for education and athletics.  He comes from a family of teachers and athletes. He lettered in 5 varsity sports as a high school athlete and continued his education and basketball career at Slippery Rock University.  Early in his teaching career, Joe was a Varsity Head Basketball Coach. It was through coaching that Joe developed his interest in officiating. In 2000, he began his officiating career and has moved up the ladder quickly. He has worked several high profile games which include the PIAA Boy’s AAAA High School State Championship  in 2007 as well as the NCAA Men’s Division III National Championship in Salem, VA in 2011.  He officiates Division II, III and is on several Division I rosters. He has been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to work a few playoff games at that level.  He considers himself a “gym rat” as if he is not teaching in one, he is working out in one, officiating in one, or critiquing / assisting others in becoming better officials.  Joe is excited to be visiting with you and hopes he can share his philosophies and a few stories to help you understand the scope of officiating basketball in today’s climate.
